Missions

In Matthew 28:18-20, after His disciples worship Him
as the living and true God, the risen Jesus gives them
and all Christians through the ages what has come to
be called "The Great Commission": "'All authority in
heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go
therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing
them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of
the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I
have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, to the close of the age.'"

Before ascending to heaven, Jesus provides a global
vision to His followers. In Acts 1:8 He shares how
mission is local and cross cultural--"'You shall
receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the end of the earth.'"

The Membership and Mission Board of FCC has the church engaged in many ways in reaching out to the community and the world with the love of Christ.

On an occasional basis the Salvation Army receives
donations from FCC to help people near and far (such
as the Katrina disaster). World Vision received a
donation to help with tsunami relief earlier in 2005.

We help individuals in need in various ways. Two
families received direct assistance in difficult
times during 2004. We give good to the Food Box. A
family of four received food directly when they came
by the church building one day.

At FCC, every member is a minister when we take steps to put our faith into action. Once or twice a year members deliver Meals on Wheels to Charles City
residents. Additionally, M&M donates money to help
keep the local program going.

Last November, FCC sent 32 Operation Christmas Child
boxes. Early in 2005 FCC received a report from a
Charles City High School graduate who delivered boxes
to three locations in Russia: Breslan in the South;
St. Petersburg; and to the Inuit tribe above the
Arctic Circle. M&M took care of the $5 handling cost
for each box. Operation Christmas Child is a ministry
of Samaritan's Purse, which is led by Franklin Graham
(a son of Billy Graham).

In the past two years, FCC has heard in person from
people involved in cross cultural missions. The
Gilmore family is with Wycliffe Bible Translators in
Africa. They are helping bring the Bible in the
mother tongue of the Zinza tribe. Dr. Thor Swanson
and his family are now in Kenya, preparing to be
involved in HIV medical ministry with Africa Inland
Mission. Information about these families are
available at the table.

In 2005, M&M and the Youth group donated money to an AIDS orphanage in Kenya. Additionally, the children's Sunday School monthly supports an orphan at that loving Christian facility.

As you can see, mission is alive at FCC. Let's look
to God to see what He has in mind for this church's
future mission!
